City of God

City of God is one of the greatest movie made. The movie is one of those movies that a budding film maker should watch. This movie is one of the best example of screening the story in a different way with little adjustments in the screenplay. Screenplay of this movie is one of the major reason for this film’s success.

The movie talks about realism and reflects the darkness of what actually happens in the lower class quater west of Rio de janeiro. Director Fernando Meirelles has done an excellent work in this movie.
City of God is a sweeping tale of how crime affects the poor population of Rio de Janeiro. Though the narrative skips around in time, the main focus is on Cabeleira who formed a gang called the Tender Trio. He and his best friend, Bené (Phelipe Haagensen), become crime lords over the course of a decade. When Bené is killed before he can retire, Lil’ Zé attempts to take out his arch enemy, Sandro Cenoura (Matheus Nachtergaele). But Sandro and a young gangster named Mane form an alliance and begin a gang war with Lil’ Zé. Amateur photographer Buscape (Alexandre Rodrigues) takes pictures of the brutal crime war, making their story famous.

This movie has won 4 academy for best Cinematography (Cesar Charlone), best Director (Fernando Meirelles), best Editing (Daniel Rezende), best Writing, Adapted Screenplay (Brauilo Mantovani).

Do watch this movie. This movie is the perfect showcase of how perfect should Direction, Cinematography, Editing and Scripting can be done. Don’t miss it.
